As our family has grown I have had to make adjustments to my household chores, obviously.
I have gone from having a "laundry day" and getting all the clothes washed, folded and put away in one day, to basically doing laundry every single day and never having everything done at the same time.
I have learned, as my children' s appetites have grown as much as their little bodies, how to make meals that will last. Where I used to get by with four chicken breasts to a casserole, now I need six. One pound of hamburger has now become two. You get the picture.
So why is it that I cannot get past the idea of doing just one load of dishes for the day? That part of my brain that functions as the "dirty dish" planner will not allow me to think beyond one dishwasher load. I am programmed to do one load and anything beyond that makes smoke come out of my ears.
I realized today, that I could realistically expect to do more than one load of dishes each day, and it wouldn't mean the earth had stopped spinning on its axis. It would just mean that I have four well-fed children. Four well- fed children who are home all day, all year long. This means they take all of their sustenance in my kitchen. Which then means that I will have more than one load of dirty dishes each day. Well, duh! ;) Boy, some things are just glaringly obvious, aren't they?
When I was a kid, my mom had a little sign hanging in her kitchen that said,"Thank God for dirty dishes, For they have a tale to tell. While others may go hungry, We're still eating well." I know there is more to it, but I can't remember it. I still love it though! It's a nice reminder...
Have a good one!

I like your mom's sign! What a great way to change one's outlook on dirty dishes.
I'm with you - why do we hate running that dishwasher twice in one day? I also have laundry in progress at all times it seems.
Jules! I found your blog through Rebelious Pastor's Wife. I second her recommendation of Martin Loopers!!!!!!!! Great bunch of people - Confessional Lutheran Homeschoolers! No greater group out there!
As to the laundry, another looper was talking about that the other day - she called it a game, get it all washed, folded and put away before you take something else off. She's never won. I almost won the other day but then I got sidetracked with cooking dinner. :(
Come visit my blog!

Oh, I know! I know! I do something along the lines of one and a half loads a day. I should just run two loads every day, b/c that half-day makes it more challenging to keep the kitchen clean.
It's fun to adjust to a growing family, isn't it? It means our homes are full and fed and being taken care of, and that's the best feeling in the world.
