Places we don't fit in

My parents are in the real estate business. Tonight they held an open house at their new office building. It was a huge project that involved many outside investors. My parents headed up the project and will now have their own offices in the building. Here's a picture...

It is a very fancy place. Of course, I wanted to be there to help them celebrate. So I loaded up the kids and off we went. It was a nice time. Lots of great little hors d’oeuvres (is that how you spell that?). The kids were angels and I was so proud of them.

Then there were the "suits". There were enough corporate ladder climbers and rat racers there that I felt completely out of place. The fancy people. That is so not my gig. So, we didn't stay long.

Four of my aunts and uncles came from far away to attend the shin-dig and celebrate with my parents. Afterwards, we all went back to mom and dad's and cracked open the beers and sat around and talked smart. Now that was a good time. Mom and dad joined us later and it was like old times, when they would all get together to play cards and us kids would run around outside until it got too dark to see. Except for this time, it was my kids and their cousins running around outside and me and my sisters sitting around with the grown-ups.

Does that mean I am now officially a grown-up? *sigh* I suppose it does. Bummer. ;)

Face it - you're at the grown-ups table now. Think of it this way...no bug bites! Sounds like a good time:)

That is some building! Congratulations to your parents!

When I was appraising, I often felt uncomfortable around the "high end" realtors. They were always so glossy and slick, and I'm not.

The family get together afterwards sounds like fun. Only grown-ups get beer!

LOL!

FTR, I usually try three or four times to spell that, give up and say "snacks". :-) You did well!

Yep, big people's table for us. Hey, maybe we can make another table - one for the big people who are still mostly in denial? Will you sit by me?

Caroline- I love the idea of no bug bites!!

Melora- "glossy and slick" describes the people we saw there perfectly!! I am with you- part of the non-glossy crowd!

Dy- I would love to sit next to you at the "adults in denial" table. Do you think we could get extra napkins and curly straws? ;)
