I have also added a few new links to my sidebar- places I've been hanging around lately. Check them out too.
Okay- here are some little known facts about me. Ready?
- I was a cheerleader in junior high and high school. (don't ask. I don't know why)
- My best friend in the whole wide world has been in my life since the fourth grade.
- We moved approximately every three to four years while I was growing up. The longest I ever spent in one school was my four years of high school.
- The first time I got drunk was when I was fourteen at a neighbor's house. He was a grown man who used to have parties for all the neighborhood kids. Creepy.
- The last time I got drunk was the summer before I got pregnant with Samantha. It was the 4th of July and I think there was something about dancing on tables. I don't really remember. ;)
- I am very, very Lutheran. I come from a staunch German Lutheran family- going back generations. My maiden name is incredibly German and my sisters and I are the first in our family to marry outside of the German Lutheran faith. (our husbands are Lutheran, but not German. Yes, there is a difference.)
- I hate sauerkraut and brats. (don't tell my Grandma)
- I attended Lutheran elementary school through 8th grade. I then attended public high school but went to a Lutheran liberal arts college.
- Derick and I met when I was a senior in high school and we both worked at the same grocery store. He worked in dairy and I worked in produce and we used to joke about him coming over to feel my melons.
- I once told my mother that I didn't think I wanted to have children.
- My junior year of college I suffered from a severe bout of depression. My roommates staged an intervention and told me to get help. I did.
- I have had more speeding tickets than I can count.
- The summer after high school I spent 8 weeks in Germany. Very cool. Except I did not speak German.
- Before we had children we had dogs. These dogs were our children. That's how I knew Derick would make a great father- because he spoiled our dogs.
- Having children has so radically altered my life and the way I think, I don't even recognize the old me. I feel like my life began when I had my babies.
Okay. I'm done. I don't know why I felt the need to share all of that. Some weird hormonal urge or something. I hope you enjoyed it!

Interesting- Let's see I was a cheerleader in junior high and high school- it defined me back then. My best friend has been in my life for...(I have to do the math)18, 19 this fall years. Okay, now I feel OLD. I was raised Roman Catholic, currently don't formally practice any religion but strongly believe in God and all that that implies. I am 100% Italian, my two older daughters are 75% Italian and my younger two are 50% Italian. I LOVE pasta. :) I started drinking at fifteen with friends, skipped school for the first time sophomore year and lost my virginity that year two- looks like Gianna has only 2 more years of freedom before I lock her in her room. ;) The last time I got drunk was November of 1993. I didn't know it yet, but I was pregnant with Gianna, the night involved some ugly electric sliding. The most I drink now is 1-3 drinks a year. I too feel like my life began when I became a mother and was renewed when I found John. I love the song "God Bless the Broken Road" by Raskel Flats- everything that happened in my life brought me to this point, a loving family of 6. Thanks for the shout out , the insight and sharing and for listening to me share back. Hopefully others will share a little more, I'll be back to read any new comments.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading all those things about you. I cna't write about some of those things on my blog b/c my grandma and my mother read it. :-)
You should do that more often though, the "A little about me" posts. I know we would love to read them (well at least me and Gina would anyway).
hugs!
dawn
ps-gina was the very first person to comment on my blog too!
we love you gina, and are glad you're back.
I loved learning more about you! Isn't it amazing the things that define our lives (even though we don't always realize it as they're happening!)
Cheerleader too :o)
Loved every minute of it.
